Historical Background
Built in 1941 by the U.S. government as housing for shipbuilders during World War II, the 450 units of Atchison Village were designed with open spaces and a garden setting to foster a sense of community. In 1956 the government put the property up for sale and the residents raised the needed $50,000 down payment to purchase the property for $1.5 million dollars. Atchison Village is a non-profit entity that is managed by a Board of Directors. The paid staff consists of a Office Manager, an assistant, and, depending on the needs of the association, a maintenance staff of four to six people.

Administrative Assistant Job Description:
Purpose: The Administrative Assistant (AA) works under and reports to the Office Manager. The AA should be able to handle all critical aspects of running the office.

Education: A high school education or G.E.D. is the minimal requirement. An Associate of Arts is preferable. Knowledge of and ability to track real estate sales and purchases is a plus.

Experience: Two years of experience in managing an office, preferably in accounting software, Word, and Excel, property management, with strong customer relations.

Duties:

  • Work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Intuit QuickBooks
  • Maintain office in an orderly and organized manner
  • Greet guests and members
  • Answer phone and check message machine
  • Collect member fees and give receipts
  • Write work orders
  • Open and sort incoming mail
  • Filing
  • Copying
  • Document shredding
  • Permit letters
  • Data entry
  • Bi-lingual is a plus
  • Perform other duties as assigned
